DEMA Assistance for Retail and Travel Buyers Impacted by the Recent Hurricanes
DEMA and the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau have developed a hurricane relief fund to assist Retail and Travel Buyers from areas affected by the recent storms in getting to Houston and DEMA Show 2004.Funds are available to attendees from these areas who register as “Buyers” and who stay in the DEMA Hotel Block.
With the recent rash of storms impacting the US Gulf Coast, some of the Caribbean island chains, Cancun, and Florida, the Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau has come to the aid of DEMA Buyers by providing funds to help extend the attendee’s hotel stay, or simply get them to the Show. The relief fund is being administered by DEMA.
On a first come, first serve basis, up to the limit of the available funds, money to help cover hotel expenses is available to those designated as “Buyers” who are physically located in the hurricane-affected areas. The money for this relief effort, which was generously provided by Houston’s Convention and Visitors Bureau, is awarded based on the Buyer having been registered and verified on the show site for DEMA Show 2004 before close of the day, October 16, 2004.Only attendees designated as “Buyers” (with either travel or retail businesses) who are also booked into the DEMA Hotel Block prior to October 15, 2004 can qualify.
Designated hurricane impacted areas include the general region known as the Caribbean, US Gulf Coast, and Florida.Specifically this includes The Lesser Antilles, Netherlands Antilles, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Florida, Cayman Islands, Bahamas, Cancun, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. The Relief Fund awards are restricted to Buyers from those businesses impacted by hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne.
Registered Buyers who are verified on Show site must apply for the relief funds through the DEMA Office prior to close of business on November 5, 2004 and supply a receipt from their DEMA Hotel Block for the dates of the Show.
DEMA will reimburse the attendee for the DEMA Hotel Block base price of one night stay (single occupancy) in the DEMA Block Hotel in which they stayed, regardless of the actual rate paid. The following are reimbursement rates applicable to this fund:
