About You, "The Professional"...
How I was introduced to the professional diving industry:
While diving the rigs in the gulf right after completing my PADI Rescue Diver Course, I had to manage a dive accident. I was shocked to learn that as the newbie out of 16 divers on the trip, I was the only one to recognize the symptoms of DCI and committed to train divers beyond the minimum standards.
What I like best about my job:
I love the excitement, enthusiasm and loyalty of the people who are my clients, and who have become my "other" family.
Words of wisdom for those starting their career in the diving industry:
If you're in it for the money you should probably look a little further. It's not about the money in this industry. It's about the love.
Best way to keep a competitive edge:
Focus on what YOU'RE doing to build your business and not on what the other guys are doing.
Biggest change I have seen in the professional diving industry since I started:
Home study and internet retailing. You can't "feel the love" through your laptop.
Pete Treloar was our initial PADI Regional Manager and he probably had the biggest influence on me as a scuba instructor moving up through the ranks.
About You, "The Person"...
Something you'd find on my bucket list:
I want to travel to China and get my picture taken standing on The Great Wall.
What I am most proud of:
My five grown children and their successes and families. They are AMAZING!
How I like to spend my free time:
Diving of course, but if I can't be diving, then sitting in the hammock down by my pond with my horse, Cricket, nuzzling the back of my neck.
"If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours." Henry David Thoreau
Something people would be surprised to learn about me:
I don't think there is a competitive bone in my body. It is never about winning for me. It's all about the game.
My 5 dream Jeopardy categories:
Scuba Physics, Scuba Physiology, Scuba Destinations, Scuba Pioneers, Scuba Diving
