About You, "The Professional"...
How I was introduced to the professional diving industry:
Being from New Zealand, you are never more than a few hours from the ocean. Diving was enviable. After retiring early from a corporate career, what better way to spend you days... as a dive professional sharing our oceans, lakes and caves with the rest of the world.
What I like best about my job:
Our Customers. Because we work in such a Niche in the global market, our customers are the most diverse and interesting people - motivated to become life long divers.
Words of wisdom for those starting their career in the diving industry:
Learn something new everyday and never forget 'the dive' is about 30% of your job - the surface experience is just as important!
Best way to keep a competitive edge:
Share - An Industry that works together, is an industry that grows. Analyse and Review - use all the data you collect to understand your customers, your trends, your market. Then focus on your core valves.
Biggest change I have seen in the professional diving industry since I started:
Information technology and eCommerce. I remember our first 'data projector' - what ever happened to those PADI VHS tapes....????
Every Diver, Instructor and Industry figure I have been fortunate enough to come into contact with - I try to take something from every encounter.
About You, "The Person"...
Something you'd find on my bucket list:
To finally complete my must do dives list - every time I cross one off the top, I seem to just keep adding another 10 to the bottom.
What I am most proud of:
That life has afforded me the opportunity to enjoy a 'sea change' like no other - exploring dive sites and meeting fellow divers in over 60 countries and counting...
How I like to spend my free time:
- Reading Clive Cussler novels (don't laugh!)
- Good Food and even better Wine.
A life lived with fear is a life half lived.
Something people would be surprised to learn about me:
I worked in the film/theatre industry for nearly 20 years.
My 5 dream Jeopardy categories:
We don't have Jeopardy 'down under' - but I guess I'd just make a list, then go diving instead anyway.
