About You and Professional Scuba Inspectors, Inc./Professional Cylinder Inspectors, Inc....
My job function in the company:
President & CEO
Years in business:
About Professional Scuba Inspectors, Inc./Professional Cylinder Inspectors, Inc.:
PSI-PCI core business is providing recognized, formal training for Visual Cylinder Inspection. We also provide training in supporting specialties which include Eddy Current training, Valve Repair training and Oxygen Cylinder Cleaning. We also provide federally mandated Cylinder HAZMAT and Fill Station Operations training. Professional Scuba Inspectors, Inc. is our original company. We also do business as Professional Cylinder Inspectors, Inc. as we reach out to other industries outside the SCUBA industry. Because this is our core business, we provide the most current, comprehensive consulting and training available on this subject.
PSI-PCI goal has remained the same since conception of the company: zero explosions. Our mission is to make the dive industry (and any other industry that utilizes high pressure breathing gas cylinders) safer by educating people on the rules and regulations and process for conducting visual inspections. We value honesty and integrity and promote that consistently by encouraging inspectors not to create their own rules regarding any specific cylinders but to remain true to the governing rules and regulations.
About You, "The Professional"...
How I was introduced to the professional diving industry:
I was introduced to the professional side of the diving industry through dive training. Once I became a diving instructor I began working with local dive shops to conduct dive training. I became the manager of a local dive shop and took that dive shop from the red to the best year on their record in just one year! I learned of Professional Scuba Inspectors through my work at that dive shop and became a volunteer for Bill High. I continued that apprenticeship with Bill for eight years prior to his "semi"-retirement when I purchased Professional Scuba Inspectors, Inc.
What I like best about my job:
The simple fact of knowing that the scuba industry really is safer because we do what we do. We hear stories every day from inspectors who call to tell us their observations of cylinders that they have removed from service. We know we are making a difference and saving lives.
Words of wisdom for those starting their career in the diving industry:
Establish a goal, build a plan to get there and remain diligent to your plan. Keeping up to date and current to provide our inspectors the most current, accurate cylinder information.
Best way to keep a competitive edge:
Keeping up to date and current to provide our inspectors the most current, accurate cylinder information.
Biggest change I have seen in the professional diving industry since I started:
The trend to provide everything electronically. Many divers today are "certified", after taking online or accelerated variations of traditional dive training programs, that can not assemble their dive gear on their own or read a dive table. While probably more convenient, not necessarily the best trend.
