About You and International Scuba...
My job function in the company:
Years in business:
About International Scuba:
A Little Bit About International Scuba: We're in the business of showing you things you've never seen before... Your first time underwater, new animals, new adventures, new locations, and new challenges. No matter what your experience level is, we'll take you further and that's our commitment to you as our dive buddy. Why are we having fun? Because we listen to you and what you want out of scuba diving. We know scuba is a fun and safe lifestyle and we want to introduce everyone to our aquatic world. How do we do all of this? We offer weekly specials, great training workshops on digital photography, buoyancy, equipment seminars by Aqualung, Atomic, Mares, Henderson etc., and many more activities that keep our divers the most active in North Texas. We don’t pat ourselves on the back but as a premier PADI 5 Star National Geographic IDC and Tec Rec Training Center, we are always searching for great equipment/class deals to pass along to you as well as great travel deals.
Goal(s) for 2013:
Continue being "the location" for training in North Texas We are adding scout troops to our list of success stories at a nice rate.
Greatest achievement in 2012:
Top performing PADI facility in continuing education as well as launching a solid technical diving profit center.
About You, "The Professional"...
What I find most rewarding about my job:
This is written from not only my perspective but Rich Thomas the GM as well. We get to transform lives, remove fears and introduce people to the amazing underwater world. We get to wear shorts and flip-flops to work.
What I am most proud of (professionally):
With the help of fantastic managers, taking a small relatively unknown facility and putting it on the map as a recreational, professional and technical training.
Greatest piece of business advice I ever received:
I once asked about expanding the location and was told until you are bulging at the seams and business permits, "Never rent storage space".
Where I see myself and/or business in 5 years:
I hope we have indeed bulged at the seams and can expand the current footprint to add more classroom and retail space. If we are lucky - expand the pool deck as well. We have continued to grow our education business and are now teaching for other stores locally and abroad internationally. We want to continue that trend.
About You, "The Person"...
Favorite place to dive:
That is a hard question to answer as I get it all of the time. It is really based on what type of diving is involved. Cozumel is always amazing and easy, Bonaire is fantastic because you set your own schedule, but I have to say I love Palau and the colors along with the abundance of life. That might change if I get to the Philippines soon but Palau is the winner.
Most memorable dive experience:
Actually not diving but on a surface interval last February on the Turks & Caicos Aggressor we got to snorkel with humpback whales on the way down to DR. Absolutely surreal!
It is a Texas A&M quote. For the Spirit of Aggieland: "From the outside looking in you can't understand it, from the inside looking out you can't explain it.
Something people would be surprised to learn about me:
Rarely does anyone know my college background is a Physical Geographer with a concentration in cartography.
