About You and Tropical Seas, Inc./Reef Safe Suncare...

My name:
Dan Knorr

My job function in the company:

Years in business:
25 years

About Tropical Seas, Inc./Reef Safe Suncare:
At Tropical Seas® we care about protecting your skin as well as protecting our environment. We take pride in our products and are passionate about what we believe in, for this reason we have remained a family owned and operated business for over 25 years. We strive for excellence; therefore all products are manufactured in our state of the art FDA Licensed facility in Daytona Beach, Florida. To meet our high quality standards, each batch of product undergoes strict testing in our laboratory. These tests ensure that every batch of product meets the same quality and specifications of the original batch produced and sent out for independent lab testing. We take pride in scientifically backing up our products marketing claims. Once our product has passed The Food & Drug Administration’s standards, we then submit our formulas to an independent ecology laboratory for further testing. By submitting our formulas for ecology testing, we learn not only their degree of biodegradability, but also their toxicity to sealife. The results, which are available for viewing on our website, prove that our products biodegrade in oceans, lakes and rivers and are non-toxic to sealife as well. We believe that quality counts in the creation of all our products. We begin at the foundation by researching and selecting only the finest raw materials based on the integrity of the ingredient, as well as the reliability and quality of the manufacturer. By utilizing environmentally sustainable and renewable plant and vegetable derived raw materials, we promote the growth and care of the environment whenever possible. We respect our environment in its entirety and take value in doing our part to save our planet. We use renewable and sustainable resources, in addition we are a NO animal testing and NO animal by-products manufacturing facility.

Goal(s) for 2013:
Achieve wider distribution and education to dive related and water sport industry regarding the benefits of using and selling Reef Safe Biodegradable sun care in our oceans, lake and river environments.

Greatest achievement in 2012:
Adding higher UVA sunscreens to our line that are scientifically proven to meet claims of "biodegradable in sea water" and non-toxic to sealife. Repackaging Reef Safe products with marine art labels that appeal to both men and women of all ages.

About You, "The Professional"...

What I find most rewarding about my job:
Working with our affiliates who get the Reef Safe message and help us spread the word.

What I am most proud of (professionally):
Having the patience and foresight to develop Reef Safe. Started on formulas in 1995 (before being green was hip) after a dive trip to Key West, 15 years later formulas passed global accredited testing in an independent ecology laboratory for both biodegradability in sea water as well as non-toxic to sea-life claims.

Greatest piece of business advice I ever received:
Make sure you manufacture unique and quality products at a competitive price, always be on time with deliveries, never lie to your customers and don't make claims you cannot prove.

Where I see myself and/or business in 5 years:
Still working away , striving to make Reef Safe a household name. My saying has always been in 2 years - LOL, so in 5 years same goal: Have enough Reef Safe customers globally so that we would be able to travel to visit them - and of course dive in their locations.

About You, "The Person"...

Favorite place to dive:
I have only experienced diving in the Florida Keys and once in the Bahamas. Out all of those trips we have made it would be hard to choose but probably the Looe Key photography dive trip. ( I don't count cleaning out our 1700 gallon batch kettles- LOL!)

Most memorable dive experience:
I did have the opportunity to be invited to Georgia Aquarium and dive with the Whale Sharks which has been my most memorable dive ever ! Most recently have been invited to dive with the Tiger Sharks at Maui Aquarium - they told me would not feed them for a week prior to my dive - LOL!

Favorite quote:
Just 2 more years !

Something people would be surprised to learn about me:
I am a huge animal lover - both land and sea !
