About You and TECreation Development, LLC...

My name:
David Woods

My job function in the company:

Years in business:
7 years

About TECreation Development, LLC:
TECreation Development was founded to create great new products which help us interface with the world around us. They use modern technology to create elegant solutions to nagging problems. Our experience in and around water has lead us into the diving world where we have created the most efficient recreational swim fin the market is likely to see.

Goal(s) for 2013:
In 2013 we would like to assist a fin manufacturer in increasing their sales by licensing our patent pending technology at a very reasonable rate and assisting in the development of ancillary products. If you would like to leapfrog the competition, talk to us. I am expecting to be at DEMA in Orlando this year. Let's meet.

Greatest achievement in 2012:
With over 60 prototypes under our belt the MaxAir swim fin has been performing amazingly well. The MaxAir allows a diver to extend his dive time with an 80 CF tank to that of a 100 CF tank. The MaxAir swim fin is the same size as a conventional swim fin and is used the same but it uses articulating hydrodynamic vanes to create lift and thrust which is simply unobtainable by the fins on the market today. Untold hours of in-water testing under controlled conditions has revealed the MaxAir swim fin to be between 20% and 50% more air efficient than the closest competition. The Military was impressed with our results and have several pair in testing now. Air efficiency is a measure of how much air it takes to get from point A to point B at a particular swimming speed. At very low speeds there is little difference between the MaxAir and others since the air consumed is essentially the air necessary at rest. The MaxAir really shines when the chips are down and one has to power through current. At these medium and higher swim speeds the air savings really stack up.

About You, "The Professional"...

What I find most rewarding about my job:
Realizing the result of long hours of design and fabrication in a successful prototype is nothing short of exhilarating.

What I am most proud of (professionally):
Running four businesses is doable. I have been able to start businesses and keep them running and fiscally sound while still maintaining time for my family which is really the best business.

About You, "The Person"...

Favorite place to dive:
The Bahamas are number one in my book. Not for SCUBA but for snorkeling. Most of the reefs are in about 12 feet of water and are easily accessible without SCUBA. One can dive all day without ever using a tank.

Most memorable dive experience:
In the Bahamas in 1973, near the Berry Islands on the Tongue of the Ocean, I did my first deep dive. As you might expect the equipment was a bit different then. It was a bounce dive to 150' with one tank. It was not the smartest thing to do but according to the dive tables it could be done as a no-deco dive. We decoed anyway for safety (before that was a common practice) and lived to tell the tale. The stillness on the wall and the absolute darkness of the abyss was accentuated by the high pitched bubbles and the school of tuna which mimicked our movements. I don't drink but if that is what a martini is like, I can see why some people do. Since then I have leaned toward the shallower dives due to the improved bottom time.

Favorite quote:
Let's do business in spite of the government. (myself)

Something people would be surprised to learn about me:
I lived on a 65' sailboat for 5 years and traveled over 45,000 miles in the Bahamas, and the Caribbean with a jaunt over to Europe and back. When you are becalmed in the middle of the Atlantic after two weeks at sea you gotta really love being there.
