About You and Town Of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea...
My job function in the company:
Promote Diving in the Town!
About Town Of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea:
The Town of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, on the Atlantic Ocean just north of Fort Lauderdale, is the Shore Dive Capital of South Florida. With a reef located within 100 yards of the beach, we are one of the most popular spots for beach diving on Florida's east coast! We are also home to the SS Copenhagen, a Florida underwater archaeological shipwreck listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2012 we held our first BugFest-By-The-Sea, a series of fun events for divers that coincides with Florida's lobster mini-season. We attracted 100 divers in our first year! The event featured lobster hunting and photo contests, a lobster cooking competition, a dive on the Copenhagen, underwater pier clean-up and a lobster cookout in a beachfront park featuring live calypso music! Our second annual BugFest in July 23-27, 2013. Our great beach diving will be featured in an upcoming ScubaNation episode this spring!
Goal(s) for 2013:
A bigger and better BugFest event! A successful ScubaNation TV debut! Start the permitting process to create a new artifical reef for snorkelers!
Greatest achievement in 2012:
Holding a successful BugFest-By-The-Sea! The dive shop in Town (Gold Coast Scuba) that was involved in the event had its best week (and best month) ever, thanks to the exposure it received from its participation in BugFest!
About You, "The Professional"...
What I find most rewarding about my job:

What I am most proud of (professionally):
An award from the Ocean Watch Foundation in 1998 in recognition for my diving and marine enviromental reporting as a journalist for the Fort Lauderdale News & Sun-Sentinel.
Where I see myself and/or business in 5 years:
I would like to see the Town widely recognized as a great and fun place to go snorkeling and scuba diving.
About You, "The Person"...

Most memorable dive experience:
I have three: encountering a 6-foot bull shark off Key Largo while snorkeling in John Pennekamp State Park (I wasn't even certified yet); diving the wall off Bimini at 140 feet, and diving at Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary with my teen-age son, Sean, who had just gotten certified.

Something people would be surprised to learn about me:
I sometimes perform stand-up comedy.
