About Cathy Church's Photo Centre:
Cathy Church is the dean of underwater photography. She has trained her staff how to use her highly successful style to teach underwater photography. We sell above and underwater cameras, make all types of custom prints, offer event photography above and underwater, and much more.
Goal(s) for 2013:
We are working to complete our new website. We are developing self-teaching modules in underwater photography to use in our classroom. Cathy is starting work on newest coffee table book to showcase her digital, imagination collection.
Greatest achievement in 2012:
Our business improved. By expanding our service and retail offerings we have more happy customers than ever.
About You, "The Professional"...
What I find most rewarding about my job:
I have written as many magazine articles as I wish to, although I could still do some more. I have offered hundreds of seminars and been inducted into most of the halls of fame, I have taught thousands of divers how to better enjoy underwater photography, I have written several books, I have sold thousands of my prints, and yet I feel as though every day I am just getting started. I carry my camera out to a reef and shoot as though I have never been there. Each student seems like a new challenge, and every photo I take is a new joy.
What I am most proud of (professionally):
I am proud of my entire reputation. I love hearing that I inspired a youngster to enjoy underwater photography. I love watching a student get better and better photos. That makes me proud.
Greatest piece of business advice I ever received:
Take good care of your customer.
Where I see myself and/or business in 5 years:
With my new manager, I see myself having more time to work on the creative side of the business. I see our business getting more efficient and doing more things on line.
About You, "The Person"...
Favorite place to dive:
Wherever I am going next, including the Cayman Islands. Every place has a surprise, and there is always a photograph lurking somewhere. Although, I have to say that when the silversides are in at Devil's Grotto, that is pretty high on my list. So is Truk Lagoon, Komodo, California, Fiji, Galapagos, ...
Most memorable dive experience:
Was it my first shark in the Red Sea, or that incredible comb jelly in Chuuk, maybe the crocodile in the Solomon Islands, or the mystery structure that still has no explanation, or riding the current in Palau, or filling my frame with soft corals in Fiji or kneeling beside a student in front of a light beam. How do you choose one from so many?
"I am very serious about my underwater photography, but I do not take it seriously." Cathy Church
Something people would be surprised to learn about me:
I know the names of far more birds than than I do fish. I maintain a life list of every bird I have seen, but I rarely worry about the names of all of the fish I see.
