DEMA Holds Stakeholder Meeting Regarding the Association and DEMA Show

Industry's trade association working hard to improve the DEMA Trade Show, industry promotion and other issues.

DEMA recently organized a meeting in San Diego, California and invited a total of 24 representatives from various businesses to discuss DEMA Show 2004 and the DEMA trade association.

Like many associations today, DEMA recognizes the need to constantly re-think its direction to bring the best in benefits for its members. This meeting was a part of that process. There is still more to discuss about how DEMA, as the Industry's trade association, can help grow diving, however, attendees at the meeting did make several observations and recommendations. Companies that wish to position or re-position their brand, expand their distribution by acquiring more dealers, provide seminars about their products, or introduce new products/services should exhibit at the DEMA trade show.

Some manufacturers, particularly those with their own sales force and substantial marketing budget, may not have these needs at this time or may have other reasons why they do not wish to participate.

The group feels strongly that DEMA should continue to be involved in promoting the sport and helping to grow the industry. Programs that help retailers are particularly important, such as the DEMA-sponsored seminars at the trade show, the DEMA 2004 Retailer Leadership Conference, the 19-city DEMA Power-Up Breakfast seminars, the Bring a Friend campaign, and the very important DEMA Scuba Tour which was responsible for introducing over 12,000 people to diving in 2003.

While changes in the economy and the business model some manufacturers use may not permit them to participate in the DEMA show this year, we the undersigned continue to support what DEMA does, including the show and the marketing efforts made. DEMA, the Show and the Association, is still appropriate and vital for the industry as a whole.
