DEMAIL 2011-11-15: DEMA Show 2011 Took Care of Business Today and Set the Stage for the Future

New Be A Diver Adventure Sports Festival & 2020 Vision Session Had Attendees Focused on a More Active & Profitable Dive Industry
More than 9,000 pre-qualified diving professionals registered for DEMA Show 2011, which was held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL from November 2nd to 5th.  DEMA Show 2011 encouraged attendees to find new direction by providing hundreds of exhibits, products, services, educational sessions and more. Opening day commenced at 10:00 am on November 2nd with more than 6,400 opening day attendees, including buyers, travel buyers, instructors and other diving professionals from all over the world. 

Throughout the four days of DEMA Show, attendees explored the show floor, filled seminar rooms, networked face-to-face, learned about new travel destinations, checked out demonstrations of the latest gear and more to ensure a successful future for their business. Almost 8,000 attendees were confirmed onsite over the four-day period, with more than 1,000 registering on-site during the first day. DEMA Show and the diving industry are so important to Orlando and the Orange County Convention Center that the Mayor of Orange County declared the week of October 30 to November 5 “DEMA Week.” The proclamation can be seen by clicking here.

Exhibitors put their best products and services on display and offered hundreds of Show Specials to professionals eager to buy for the upcoming diving season. Exhibitors such as Aqua Lung, DAN, GoPro, Oceanic, PADI, Scubapro, TUSA and MANY more hosted hundreds of attendees in their booths to showcase their 2012 product and service offerings. Click here to view just some of the highlights captured by DEMA’s partner, Border Cross Productions, during the four action-packed days of DEMA Show 2011.

In keeping with the Show theme DEMA announced a new direction for the Association on November 3rd at the Annual Member Meeting; the creation of a new annual festival to promote and celebrate diving: The Be A Diver Adventure Sports Festival. Reaching out to consumers who love adventure sports, water sports and the outdoor lifestyle, the inaugural Festival will take place April 26-28, 2013, at the Fort Lauderdale Convention Center in Florida. From exhibits and seminars to block parties, bands and contests, the Festival will be structured to engage a wide cross-section of potential new customers, including non-divers, current divers, and inactive divers with an eye toward attracting them back to the sport. For further details click here.

Thanks to DEMA Show 2011 being featured on top Orlando news station WOFL-Fox News Morning News on November 3rd, thousands of viewers were given the chance to get a behind the scenes look at the trade-only event and the diving industry itself. The 3-minute segment highlighted DEMA Show 2011, the benefits of scuba diving and new products showcased in 2011 to 87,145 early morning viewers. To view this segment in its entirety click here.

Industry professionals continued to focus on new directions for the industry on November 4th during the 2020 Vision Brainstorming Session moderated by DEMA Executive Director, Tom Ingram. Attendees engaged in lively discussions on ideas to grow the Industry including everything from online interaction and streamlined certification choices to increased educational requirements and more face-to-face interaction. Those interested in continuing the discussion can request to join the online LinkedIn Forum by clicking here. The purpose of this year's 2020 Vision sessions was to help guide the strategic planning process for the DEMA Board of Directors, and these sessions will continue throughout 2012 as the need for input becomes more focused and detailed.
