About You and Blackbird Caye Resort...

My job function in the company:
Sales & Marketing Manager

Years in business:
20 years

About Blackbird Caye Resort:
Blackbird Caye sits on Turneffe Atoll, the largest and most biologically diverse coral atoll in the Western Hemisphere. Located 25 miles east of Belize City, Turneffe Atoll is the closest to the mainland of the three atolls in Belize. Unlike the outer atolls, Turneffe is unique; it is not a ringlet of sandy islets like Lighthouse Reef and Glover’s Atoll, but is instead nearly covered with thick green mangroves and a shallow lagoon. It is the only Caribbean Atoll made up of dozens of mangrove islands which are the juvenile nurseries for coral reefs and many schools of fish. Turneffe Atoll offers world class diving and snorkeling — the visibility often ranges from 100 to 150 feet. In addition, at least 60 species of birds are found at Turneffe during the height of the migratory season, including 18 species of nesting birds. The large expanses of intact mangrove and sea grass habitat and shallows serve as a huge nursery area for a wide array of fish species, crocodiles, manatees, dolphins and invertebrates. The unspoiled natural beauty of the area and uncommon personal service creates an idyllic tropical island retreat.

Business mission/values:
Blackbird Caye Resort's mission is to provide you with the best diving and snorkeling experience all while doing so in a safe manner. Guests are not just customers they become our friends. Top customer service is something we value and our priority to exceed expectations start from the moment the reservation is made until our driver drops off the guests at the airport.

About You, "The Professional"...
How I was introduced to the professional diving industry:
I have always lived near water, I grew up in Puerto Rico then moved to Miami Florida so the ocean has been a close friend of mine.

What I like best about my job:
I like the fact I get to represent beautiful Blackbird Caye which is the best kept secret in Belize.

Best way to keep a competitive edge:
You have to stay on top of the competition at all times. Find out what everyone is doing and what the demand is, the internet is a double edge sword but used wisely can make you very prosperous.

Biggest change I have seen in the professional diving industry since I started:
The direct business has increased tremendously, before people would leave their trip plans up to a third party. Today consumers are more savvy and do a lot of homework before they determine where they want to travel.
About You, "The Person"...
Something you'd find on my bucket list:
Go on a road trip along PCH from San Diego to San Francisco, go by Napa Valley and finish off the trip in Yosemite.

What I am most proud of:
I am most proud of my personal growth as a human being. I have worked very hard and have been able to obtain material things but at the end of the day a position, a car, a house, savings account all that can be lost and taken away. The personal growth I have done and what I do for others on a daily basis carry far more weight than any material thing I might have obtained.

How I like to spend my free time:
I like to cook, read and work out.

Favorite quote:
People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.

Something people would be surprised to learn about me:
I wanted to be a singer/dancer in broadway, it was always my dream to be in theatre.
