About Bill Beard's Scuba Diving And Adventure Travel Company:
Bill and Nadine Beard are PADI Instructors, SSI Platinum Pro 5000 members and were elected to The International Legends Of Diving. Bill Beard is the true pioneer of scuba diving and combining adventure tours in Costa Rica. On his first trip to Costa Rica, there were no scuba tanks in the country. In 1970, Bill brought tanks with him on his next trip, got them filled at Miller Gas, and started diving in Costa Rica from dug out canoes. He was the first working instructor and had the first professional dive shop in the country located in San Jose. In 1974, Bill Beard branched out by opening a beach location in Playas del Coco on the Pacific Ocean and operated daily dive trips from there and Playa Hermosa. Bill has many firsts to his credit, including bringing scuba diving and adventure tours to Guanacaste. Bill’s wife Nadine joined him in 1988 and they formed an association to combine scuba diving and adventure tour packages, the first in the country to do so.

What makes your destination so unique?
This small country’s incredible landscape includes beautiful Pacific and Caribbean beaches, breath-taking mountains, incredible valleys, active volcanoes and lush tropical forests. It is one of the most bio-diverse countries on the planet with more than 850 species of birds, 600 species of butterflies, and exotic mammals such as sloths, tapirs, coatimundis, anteaters, peccaries, and jungle cats, which makes traveling here a delight for tourists who discover Costa Rica’s unique wonders. In spite of its small size, Costa Rica features greater biodiversity than Europe or North America! This is due to a number of factors, among them: The country’s location between North and South America, enabling plants and animals from both continents and the Antilles (Caribbean islands) to establish themselves there. Costa Rica’s tropical climate and geographical makeup, that includes a range of habitats, from lowland rainforest to cloud forests, to tropical lakes and rivers. The nation’s ecological policy has protected 33% of it’s natural territory. Costa Rica has 5 % of the World’s diversity 9,000 specias of plants & 900 species of trees 1500 specias of orchids 976 species of brids including the resplendent quetzal 200 mammal species 150 species of amphibians 1031 species of fish both fresh & salt water 14 species of turtles both fresh & salt water 10% of the world’s butterflies including the beautiful morpho.

Where I see the business in 5 years:
Our plans are to continue the growth of the scuba diving vacation packages in Costa Rica on the Pacific Ocean with an emphasis on families and certification of all members to enable them to see the beauty of what lies beneath. Offering more options of resort accommodations, adventure activities while traveling throughout the country to see more of the beauty and learn and enjoy the culture that makes Costa Rica such a wonderful destination for the entire family.
