Tell us about your dive club or any fun promotional activities you do for local divers:

Twice a year our store plans DEMO events where we gather equipment from the store, and from our local reps in order to let our clients try the latest and greatest n dive equipment. We plan a few hours in the swimming pool and a big storewide events following that. This gives everyone the opportunity to try it before they buy or just come and get their gills wet. This events has been done successfully now two years running and we are only looking at ways to make it bigger and better! Eventually we see this as a big tent event with a try scuba swimming pool as well.

Your advice for someone wanting to open their own dive shop:
Owning a dive shop is a unique business proposition. For many owners the glamour of owning a dive shop may be in free trips and cheap dive equipment. Don't get me wrong, these are excellent benefits but be prepared to run a dive shop like a real business; Develop a budget (and stick to it!), pay your bills, and plan profitable growth.

Where I see the business in 5 years:
In five years, I see this industry undergoing a change from the established diver to a younger adventurer. This will bring freediving and other variations of the sport in to the spotlight and force us, as an industry, to accommodate an adventurer with dynamic tastes.
