DEMA is sad to announce the passing on October 10 of Andre Laban, a world-renowned French diver, photographer, author, and painter and a pioneering member Jacques-Yves Cousteau's Calypso team.  Andre served as chief engineer and diver aboard the Calypso. He developed early underwater cameras that were used in shooting The Silent World, which won an Oscar for Best Documentary in 1956.

A short video from the Cayman Islands-based International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame, into which Mr. Laban was inducted in 2011, can be viewed by clicking here.

The funeral will take place Saturday, October 13 at 11:15 at the Crematorium Montauban.
