About You and O.E. ENTERPRISES...

My name:
Edward Harper

My job function in the company:
Owner/Ocean Engineer

Years in business:
21 years

O.E. ENTERPRISES is the leading manufacturer of underwater speakers and acoustic diver recall systems used in the sport diving industry. O.E. ENTERPRISES sells it's products under the registered trademark of "OCEANEARS". My company manufactures the U.S. NAVY APPROVED DSD-6E Acoustic Diver Signaling Device used by EOD, MDSU and other US Military Divers around the world. O.E. ENTERPRISES is a veteran owned small business and is PROUD to say MADE in AMERICA for it's underwater speakers. Our speakers are used by synchronized swimming teams around the world to research scientist to the US Military.

Business mission/values:
Our mission is to provide a QUALITY Product at a fair price that meets the mission requirement - from the homeowner to synchronized swimming teams to Homeland Security to the US Military. Our OCEANEARS underwater speakers are MADE in AMERICA and we are proud of that.

About You, "The Professional"...

How I was introduced to the professional diving industry:
I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in OCEAN ENGINEERING from FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY in 1977 and specialized in underwater acoustics. After graduating from FAU I worked with companies doing transducer design and that is where I developed my background for my company. I am also a NAUI INSTRUCTOR (Retired) with NAUI #6112. I taught SCUBA Diving in the past as an Independent INSTRUCTOR but now all my time is spent growing my business for my Son and Grandson and developing new products for the dive industry (especially in the area of DIVER RECALL for Emergencies -- Our Diver Signaling Device and Recall Systems should replace banging on the ladder mentality).

What I like best about my job:
I enjoy my job because I enjoy SCUBA Diving and setting my own destiny and not relying on working for another company to set my future. I love the FREEDOM that being self employed has brought me. No office politics or egos to deal with.

Words of wisdom for those starting their career in the diving industry:
If getting into the Dive Industry you need to advance with the times and the technology that is available. Remember that what they did in the past is different today. In the past no BC and their recall device was to bang on the dive ladder. Remember, this is the 21st Century.

Best way to keep a competitive edge:
Offer a QUALITY Product or Service at a reasonable price and care about your clients.

Biggest change I have seen in the professional diving industry since I started:
The biggest change has been in TECHNOLOGY that is used in diving from the dive computer to the BC.

About You, "The Person"...

Something you'd find on my bucket list:
I had the opportunity to dive with the support divers during the "O" Show in Las Vegas at the BELLAGIO Casino & Hotel. My underwater speakers are used in training the Astronauts in Houston and the Cosmonauts at STAR CITY, RUSSIA. I was the Music Master at the FINA World Championships in Shanghai, CHINA in 2011.

What I am most proud of:
My underwater speakers are used in the U.S. and RUSSIAN Space Programs for training and by U.S. Military Dive Teams around the World and in HOMELAND SECURITY to help protect this country. Underwater speakers were used at the 1996 OLYMPICS in Atlanta and at the 2008 OLYMPICS in Beijing.

How I like to spend my free time:
SCUBA Diving, Zip Lining, growing my business and enjoying my family.

Favorite quote:

Something people would be surprised to learn about me:
Almost drowned twice during my youth until I learned to swim.

My 5 dream Jeopardy categories:
(1) Diver Recall Methods (2) Synchronized swimming equipment (3) Emergency preparedness for diving (4) Underwater sound and entertainment (5) Marine mammal studies
